Some users say their experience is actually worse after applying the latest iOS update

It seems iOS 5.0.1 didn’t cut it for those complaining about battery drainage under iOS 5. Negative reports keep piling up over at Apple’s forums, with new threads emerging on the topic.

iOS customers have taken to Apple Support Communities yet again with new complaints about battery life, this time after installing a patch that was supposed to alleviate said problem.

In fact, some say their experience has been worse ever since installing the new software update.

“I upgraded to the new software today and am still losing about 10% per hour of batter, even when i'm not using the phone!”, says one iPhone 4S user.

“Me too!! I have an appointment with an apple tech on the phone tomorrow.  I have no idea what to do now!  Battery life is so much worse,” says another.

Of course, not everyone is having the same bad experience. Others say battery life is actually much better after applying the patch:

“My battery life improved greatly after the upgrade to 5.0.1. With 5.0, I had turned off some location services and push notifications and was getting better battery life but would lose about 20% in 3 hours,” says a person replying to the thread starter.

“After the upgrade to 5.0.1, after 6 hours with 1 in use and 5 in standby I was down 9%. In the first 4 hours, with 30 minutes of use and 3:30 of standby I was down 4%.  Huge improvement,” this person explains.

On a separate thread, one user claims “Before the 5.0.1 update I actually didn't have any battery problems on my iPhone 4S. But thanks to this update I now seem to have one, too.”

Needless to point out, these are just a few examples. I stress that many are reporting much improved behavior of their phones, and not necessarily referring only to battery life.

However, these complaints are worth highlighting since the main purpose of iOS 5.0.1 was to fix battery drainage, not cause it.

Have you taken the plunge? What’s your experience so far?
