New job openings at Apple indicate that a new player is in the works

A number of job descriptions on Apple.com suggest that a new iPod model is on the way. However, with Apple’s declining iPod business, it’s hard to believe the company is preparing to introduce a new model.

The new job openings are Plastics Tooling EPM, Product Quality Engineer - iPod, and New Product Operations Program Manager - iPod.

The Plastics Tooling Eng. Program Mgr. will be hired to “drive the day-to-day program activities to meet the overall program objectives with a heavy focus on production tool release and deployment planning.”

The Product Quality Engineer “will partner closely with the Engineering during all phases of development to enable operational success in the mass production.”

The New Product Operations Program Manager will be hired to “launch Apple’s products on time, with superior product quality and maximum customer availability.”

With Tim Cook himself admitting that the iPod line is slowly dying, is it too farfetched to assume that Apple is disguising iWatch hirings as for-iPod?
