Apple this week confirmed in two separate instances that the latest iMac models are incompatible with the popular VESA mounts used to suspend all-in-one systems on different types of surfaces.

Originally confirmed by Apple representative Laura Metz, the compatibility issue makes it impossible to use the newest generation of iMacs with wall mounts, articulating arms, and other mounting gear.

Mrs Metz said “[Apple] will take it into consideration,” referring to the incompatibility issue, suggesting that the Cupertino company itself might roll out a solution in the future.”

Further such hints are dropped in a new KB article on Apple Support titled “iMac (Late 2012): VESA mount adapter not compatible.” In the Support document Apple states, “The new iMac (21.5-inch and 27-inch, Late 2012) is not VESA mount compatible at this time.” (emphasis ours).

Needless to point out, Apple’s design guru Jonathan Ive could easily think up an adapter for the VESA mount.
