Apple has updated Support document HT3931 which talks about Server Admin Tools 10.6.5, an update to the suite of remote administration tools, documentation, and utilities that you can install on a Mac other than your server.

According to Apple’s Support documentation, this version of the Server Admin Tools requires Mac OS X v10.6.5. The updated suite is a requirement for those who plan to administer Mac OS X Server v10.6.5 remotely, Apple says.

However, the actual installer package is nowhere to be found.

Softpedia checked with the Downloads area at Apple.com, as well as with Apple’s servers via the Mac OS X built-in Software Update mechanism, and both methods failed to produce listings for any updates to Server Admin Tools, at the time of this writing.

The Mac maker notes that “Server Admin Tools 10.6.5 includes all of the improvements included in previous updates to the Server Admin Tools for Mac OS X Server v10.6 Snow Leopard.”

It provides a complete list of improvements, including the update in which these improvements first appeared.

Softpedia has selected the changes specific to version 10.6.5 of the software. These are reproduced below.

Server Admin

- When setting up a remote server, Server Admin will now reliably open Server Assistant. - Adds NetBoot/NetInstall model filters for Mac mini (Mid 2010), iMac (Mid 2010), Mac Pro (Mid 2010) and MacBook Air (Late 2010). - When creating a DHCP Subnet in Server Admin, the field for DNS Search Domain now accepts the dash (hyphen) character. - Reduces memory usage when monitoring print queues in Server Admin.

System Image Utility

- Adds NetBoot/NetInstall model filters for Mac mini (Mid 2010), iMac (Mid 2010), Mac Pro (Mid 2010) and MacBook Air (Late 2010).

- Fixes the "Apply System Configuration Settings" custom workflow.

Upon download, Server Admin Tools also unpacks the iPhone Configuration Utility, a program that lets you create, maintain, encrypt, and install configuration profiles, track and install provisioning profiles and authorized applications, and capture device information including console logs.

For a complete overview of the recent changes in Server Admin Tools 10.6.5, see Apple’s Support area here.

The Server Admin Tools 10.6.5 installer should become available for download momentarily. An updated version of the iPhone Configuration Utility should also arrive alongside the new Server Admin Tools.

Updated: Server Admin Tools 10.6.5 is now available for download via Software Update.

To download and install, access Software Update from your Mac's Apple menu, select "Server Admin Tools 10.6.5 (38.6 MB)" and hit "install."
