14 DAY TRIAL // Apple has issued a brief report today confirming plans to use WWDC 2011 to unveil Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, iOS 5, and an all-new iCloud suite of Interned services.
The announcement, “Apple to Unveil Next Generation Software at Keynote Address on Monday, June 6”, doesn’t come as a shocker, as Apple had promised to unveil Lion since last year.
iOS 5 is not a breaking announcement either - the fifth major version of Apple’s iPhone and iPad software was by far the next-in-line announcement at WWDC 2011.
Not even iCloud, the much-rumored enhanced version of MobileMe, comes as a surprise. Apple is believed to use the service to offer every Apple ID holder a cloud locker in which they can store their entire digital life.
“At the keynote, Apple will unveil its next generation software - Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS X; iOS 5, the next version of Apple’s advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch; and iCloud, Apple’s upcoming cloud services offering,” the announcement reads.
The Cupertino, California based company also confirmed that CEO Steve Jobs will be live on stage delivering the WWDC 2011 keynote alongside fellow Apple execs.
“Apple CEO Steve Jobs and a team of Apple executives will kick off the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address on Monday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m.”, Apple said.
The tech giant also addressed developers, saying “WWDC will feature more than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers. Mac developers will see and learn how to develop world-class Mac OS X Lion applications using its latest technologies and capabilities.”
As for those specializing in mobile applications, they will be able to “explore the latest innovations and capabilities of iOS and learn how to greatly enhance the functionality, performance and design of their apps.”
