Mac testers are beginning to receive a notice from Cupertino stating that the Software Update Project for OS X 10.8.4 has reached an end, suggesting an imminent release very soon.

Released yesterday to all AppleSeed testers, the notice reads, “The Software Update Project will close today, Friday, May 31, 2013.”

“Our infrastructure is scheduled for maintenance this weekend that requires us to close existing projects. We will email you and let you know when the final version of the Software Update is publicly available,” Apple states.

The Cupertino giant extends a sincere thank you to all participants in the seeding program, outlining that “Many bugs and issues have been discovered as a result of your efforts.”

With the closing of the beta, the discussion board for this project has also shut down, along with the Project Area with its respective downloads and bug forms.

“We realize that testing may have involved a great deal of time on your part to submit bugs, submit follow-up information, and re-install software along with your daily work,” the company adds.

Apple continues to allow access to every user’s participant page at https://appleseed.apple.com, “and we encourage you to keep your information up to date,” reads the notice.

“We will be sure to include you in a the future testing of this product,” Apple concludes.

Unlike the incremental update before it, OS X 10.8.4 has spanned only a handful of beta releases. Each one has yielded new bug fixes, while most have focused on Graphics Drivers, Safari, and WiFi connectivity.

Of particular interest is the added support for an upcoming networking protocol, 802.11ac, also known as 5G WiFi.

Apple is expected to release new Macs at WWDC 2013 which may take advantage of this enhancement.

A release date for OS X 10.8.4 hasn’t been made available, though we can expect it to hit our Software Updaters in the next week or so.
