Apple has announced via its iPhone Dev Center that iAd Network Advertising roll out has begun. According to the Mac maker, the initial launch of iAd rich media ads begins with the US market, and features advertising from some of the world's leading brands. iAd will be rolled out in a few months for developers outside of North America, Apple confirmed.

“iAd Network Advertising Roll Out Begins July 1,” reads the latest update to the News and Announcements section for iPhone Developers. “The initial launch of iAd rich media ads, featuring advertising from some of the world's leading brands, will begin July 1,” the company informs via its iPhone Dev Center. “At launch, we’ll roll out in North America and ramp up the number of ads served in the weeks and months ahead. For developers outside of North America, iAd will be rolled out in a few months,” Apple reveals. Those who haven’t joined the iAd Network are encouraged to do so by visiting the App Store Resource Center. There, developers can obtain information on how to get started implementing “motion and emotion” in their ad-supported apps.

“iAd brings motion and emotion to mobile advertising,” Apple says, elsewhere on its web site. “Entertain and inform with full-screen in-line video, wallpapers, games, interactive maps, in-ad app or iTunes content downloads, social networking tools, and more,” goes the iAd description. Apple introduced the new advertising platform at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, following the company’s acquisition of Quattro Wireless, a prominent advertising company.

iAds pose an advantage both for iPhone developers, and for end users. The format allows developers to implement immersive ads without forcing customers to leave their apps. iAds also facilitate targeting a certain audience. Creating what Apple calls “high-impact ads” for the iAd platform is achievable using iAd JS, a developer tool which provides programmers with the foundation to design and create these rich media ads that incorporate everything from video, to graphics, to animation. iAd JS is available solely to iPhone Developer Program members from the iPhone Dev Center on Apple’s web site.
