A new beginning for Apple

"The first 30 years were just the beginning. Welcome to 2007." OK, I agree with that, but after finding out the details about yesterday's keynote, I know that this statement from Apple is the truth, the whole truth and nothing else. After all, if you claim to think different, evolution is a must, and Apple keeps the right balance between following the market's tendencies and dictating those tendencies. This time, they did both things, and let me explain how I see things...

Let's leave behind the iPhone, the Apple TV and all the rest and concentrate on the name change instead. "What name change?" Well, some might say it's not that big, since Apple is still Apple, but if we look closer, a change from "Apple Computer, Inc." to "Apple Inc." is not something to overlook. "Why, are they going to stop manufacturing computers?", some may ask. No, of course not!

The name change that comes with two products that may prove revolutionary for the company and - why not, for the entire market - is not just some fancy idea coming from Steve Jobs. Apple is passing through a transition from a company focused on the computers market to one that targets the consumer electronics market as well. Just think about the fact that estimations say that the iPhone will get 1% of the world's cell phones market share in 2008, and this single percent represents 10 million units!

What else can be said? Things look really good for Apple, and I am sure that nobody will have problems with the disappearance of the "Computer" from the company's name. After all, this is only the end of an era and the dawn of a new one. A better one, I am sure of that. Good bye, Apple Computer, Inc., welcome Apple Inc.!
