Apple Co-Founder Likes 'Smaller Companies [with] New Ideas'

It is now known for a fact that, when Steve Wozniak isn't offering technical advice over at Axiotron, he is secretly dreaming of being a star. Remaining true to his roots nonetheless, the man soon to dance live on TV has accepted a position with Fusion-io, as Chief Scientist. Fusion-io offers high-speed flash memory solutions for companies relying on servers.

Steve Wozniak is best known for shaping the computer industry by creating the Apple I and II and greatly influencing the Macintosh. After leaving Apple in 1985, Steve Wozniak took on different activities, most of which involved technology. The last we heard, Woz entered the Mac modding business by joining Axiotron's board's of advisors.

Axiotron, as some of you may know, modifies Apple notebooks, turning them into Mac tablets called ModBooks. Seeing the Apple co-founder as “a trailblazer at the dawn of the personal computing revolution,” Axiotron admired him for his knowledge in the field, and managed to squeeze itself in Woz's agenda.

Most recently, word on the web has it that Woz is going back to work full time, not at Apple, but at Fusion-io, a start-up company that optimizes computers for tapping vast amounts of storage at very quick rates.

“I have a pretty quiet life, and I like to watch technology evolve,” Mr. Wozniak said in an interview. “In this case, I like the people and the product, and said I would like some greater involvement,” he declared.

As you can see, the pattern is obvious. Steve is so into geeky stuff that he simply can't stay away. Moreover, both Axiotron and Fusion-io modify / tweak up stuff. Woz has seemed quite taken with these activities lately.

Mr. Wozniak also mentioned that he would consider joining Apple’s board, if the company asked. “I have thought about that in recent years, but it’s not on my mind at all right now,” he stated. “I think I have a better place at smaller companies looking at new ideas.”
