Word on the streets of Korea is that Apple has dumped AUO from its supply chain, at least as far as the iPad 2 is concerned, because the panel maker was unable to meet the company’s demands.

What’s more is that Samsung reportedly stands a good chance to steal those orders from AUO, as its relationship with Apple has improved. At least that’s what ET News has for us today.

As the story goes, AU Optronics (or AUO) failed to deliver a high-penetration LCD for the iPad mini 2, a revision to Apple’s diminutive tablet computer which has been received with immense praise from users and reviewers alike.

Apple may be planning to deploy the next-generation iPad mini with a splash, which means it will rely only on those suppliers who can deliver on their promise.
