Third-party accessory manufacturers have a green light to make iPhone 5 gear

Apple is yet to provide authorization to third-party accessory manufacturers to release gear “made for iPhone 5” or any other device that uses the Lightning I/O standard. But that’s no roadblock for them.

Hackers are known for their impatience, so they cracked the chips housed inside the minuscule dock connectors, paving the way for more accessory makers to create accessories that are compatible with the iPhone 5, with or without Apple’s seal of approval.

iPhone5mod has revealed to MacRumors that they’ve obtained “cracked chips that bypass Apple's authentication functions” and that these cracked chips are operating at the same parameters as the original ones.

As such, the accessory market may churn out dozens of unauthorized iPhone 5-compatible accessories in the coming months.

The first accessory to bypass Apple’s restrictions using a cracked chip is the Phone 5 Flash Lightning Dock.

I, personally, find it one of the most original accessories ever made for the iPhone. Watch a video demonstration above.
