A Tippmann Forum member tells a pretty interesting story about a certain broken MacBook Pro that he handed over to Apple care. The laptop Apple care returned to him, however, was not quite the same - as in, "lower-specced" not the same. Read on for the
details.

"So I am on the phone with apple support right now for possibly the dumbest reason I have ever experienced," the unfortunate MacBook Pro owner writes. "In February I sent in my macbook pro for repairs covered under apple care. No big deal really. They fixed it and sent it back in about a week perfectly fine (or so I thought)."

The post continues, revealing that the guy and one of his friends were talking about processor speed the other day when, all of the sudden, he saw that system profiler was not showing the specs he knew he originally bought from Apple, namely a 2.4 Ghz processor and a 256MB video card. System profiler was now showing a 2.2 Ghz processor and a 128MB video card. "They freaking downgraded my computer," the guy wrote.

He then went to check if he got the same computer back. An edit on the same forum post reveals that, indeed, the serial numbers on the box and the computer were exactly the same, so at least he got the same computer-case back.

But, after getting off the phone with Apple care again, he was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief, having been told that Apple will take care of the problem if the parts are indeed wrong.

The only remaining problem is that if the parts are indeed wrong, while the case is the exact same one as before, Apple should really take a second look at the folks it's hiring for this job, or at least keep a close eye on their activity. This gives a whole new meaning to "replacement" programs. Be sure to sound off in the comments on this one.
