Apple’s much-rumored CDMA-capable iPhone 4 was confirmed today during a press event hosted in New York by Verizon, the American wireless services provider.

The device is considered a new-breed iPhone 4 that has been “designed” to work on the carrier’s CDMA network, according to Apple’s chief operating officer, Tim Cook, who was present at the event.

Lowell McAdam, President and Chief Operating Officer of Verizon, kicked off the event confirming that the operator was teaming up with "a giant of the industry”. That giant is Apple.

Before inviting Tim Cook on stage, McAdam took a moment to thank the senior team at Apple, noting that “it has been a real pleasure to work with them.”

Calling Cook a “friend” and a “colleague”, McAdam allowed Apple’s COO to take the spotlight for a few minutes, in order to make the official CDMA iPhone 4 introductions:

"I am incredibly happy to be with you all today. We've been looking forward to today for a long time. Since 2007 the iPhone has been a phenomenal success," Cook said.

"We're incredibly pleased to give Verizon's customers the choice we've been waiting for.”

“We've designed an iPhone 4 which connects to the CDMA network -- and it has all the features that you'd expect. Like FaceTime. Features like Apple's stunning Retina Display," Cook confirmed for attending members of the media.

The Apple COO continued to dish out hardware specs, mentioning the 5 megapixel camera, HD video support, and the custom A4 chip powering the device.

“But most importantly, it provides an integrated customer experience that's far beyond what anyone else is providing,” Cook said. “From iOS, to iTunes, to the App Store -- they're all designed to work together."

Towards the end of his speech, Cook confirmed that Apple has been working with Verizon for a while now, adding that “this is just the beginning of a relationship between Apple and Verizon.”

“I'm very optimistic about what the future holds,” he said.

Moments later, McAdam returned on stage to inform that Apple’s CDMA iPhone 4 will be available for pre-order on February 3rd.

The device will be physically present in the carrier’s own stores, as well as Apple’s on February 10th.

Customers will also be able to order one online, the Verizon president said.
