The Wall Street Journal's AllThingsD reports that Tim Cook has been chosen as the opening speaker at the paper’s tenth "D: All Things Digital" (D10) conference scheduled to kick off next month.

Co-Executive Editor of AllThingsD, Kara Swisher reports that Cook will provide his perspective on where the tech industry is headed - with a focus on Apple, of course - and perhaps a glimpse into what makes this long-time Apple vet “tick.”

Ms. Swisher confirms this will be Tim Cook’s first time onstage at an event not run by Apple or for investors since he was named CEO last August, and that it’s also his first appearance at D.

Other speakers on the D10 list include major players in tech and media such as New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz. Others are to be announced in the coming weeks.
