At the D11 conference hosted by All Things D, Apple CEO Tim Cook answered a few brief pokes on the next iOS update, confirming that the company’s chief designer is handling the project.

Asked by Kara Swisher, “What’s new in iOS?” Cook replied, “Surprise is fun.”

“Is the iOS update dramatic?” Swisher asked, with Cook dodging again stating only that “Jony Ive is working on it.”

Of course, Ive isn’t working on the software per se, but rather giving the engineering teams the necessary instructions to shape it up to be prettier and more intuitive.

After a widely reported executive shakeup in 2012, Apple put Jony Ive in charge of Human Interfaces across all hardware and software. Ive is also one of the most influential executives at Apple, having been a close friend of Steve Jobs, with whom he shared a lot of his vision.
