“...don’t worry as we’re working on something really great for later next year”

Apple CEO Tim Cook has caught wind of the Facebook petition that asked the Cupertino giant to clarify the state of the Mac Pro, following a WWDC keynote presentation that left several Macintosh upgrades unaddressed.

The backlash regarding Apple’s reluctance to upgrade the pro workstations two years in a row started a while ago. As WWDC 2012 approached, more and more customers started “signing” a petition that urged the company to issue a statement regarding their plans for the future.

The WWDC keynote address yielded several MacBook Pro upgrades, new versions of the MacBook Air, and an all-new Retina display MacBook Pro.

The Apple online store began to reflect those upgrades soon thereafter, including one “new” Mac Pro that ultimately proved to upset customers even more. They hadn’t anticipated a meager 133 MHz speed bump as the key addition to the professional-grade workstations.

However, at least one new Macintosh computer is set to emerge next year, according to Apple’s chief executive officer responding to disgruntled customers who were expecting a Mac Pro refresh at WWDC 2012.

The CEO’s email (obtained and verified by the people at Macworld) seems to imply that customers can expect an all-new professional Mac next year, not just an upgrade to the current form factor:

Franz,

Thanks for your email. Our Pro customers like you are really important to us. Although we didn’t have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today’s event, don’t worry as we’re working on something really great for later next year. We also updated the current model today.

We’ve been continuing to update Final Cut Pro X with revolutionary pro features like industry leading multi-cam support and we just updated Aperture with incredible new image adjustment features.

We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros.
