iWatch and big-screen TV are the candidates for next year’s lineup

During the Q4 earnings call held yesterday, Apple’s CEO confirmed to analysts and investors that the company plans to break new ground in product categories in which it is currently not participating.

At the conference, Cook said Apple would use all its talent and resources in software and hardware design to churn out all-new products next year, not just iterations of existing product lines.

“We're pretty confident about that,” said Cook.

First on the menu would be the iWatch. A product rumored to be in the pipeline for years, this wearable computer is expected to beat everything out there in terms of form and function, with the help of some advanced underlying software.

The device would be packed with sensors and ties to the iOS and Mac ecosystem, according to the latest industry chatter.

Another thing diehard fans are anxiously waiting for is an Apple-branded, big-screen TV. Apple currently sells a $99/€99 set top box that connects to the Internet to deliver movies and TV shows playable on an HDTV that the customer already owns.

However, come next year Apple is expected to ship a product that incorporates both the Apple TV hardware and a crisp, 50-inch display.

Many analysts were expecting at least one of these two hot products to launch at Apple’s fall events, but unfortunately that didn’t happen.

The media continues to talk about Apple’s slow innovation pace under Tim Cook, but next year things are likely to turn around (and so is Apple’s stock valuation).

As genuine Apple fans will recall, Steve Jobs didn’t launch a new product line every other year either. It takes a lot of prototyping to come out with a product that’s not susceptible to failure, and you can bet that’s what Apple is doing at the moment.

Perhaps Apple’s modus operandi is best explained in the video below.
