Apple has reportedly bought a company that offered contextual notifications in the form of daily snapshots, aggregating email, calendar, and social networking.

Cue’s IP was reportedly sold to Apple for $40 to $60 million dollars, which roughly translates into €30 to €44 million. An Apple spokesperson was willing to confirm the acquisition in a statement provided to Ingrid Lunden over at TechCrunch.

“Hi Ingrid, thank you for your interest in Apple. Here is our statement on this: Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

According to a concise description of the Cue service (obtained by MacRumors), “Cue turns your email, contacts and calendar into an intelligent snapshot of your day […] Cue pulls these accounts together and uses sophisticated algorithms to create a personalized overview of the events and activities of your day.”

Cueup.com, the company's official web site, now shows a "shutting down" notice which states that premium customers will be reimbursed, with the assurance that any personal information stored on their servers will be permanently deleted.

The company's iOS app has also been pulled from the App Store.
