Maya-Systems, a Canadian company that specializes in developing advanced content management technologies, has issued a press statement to announce that Apple had acquired 18 of the company’s patents.

According to the announcement, “In the third quarter of 2012, a transaction took place between Maya-Systems Inc. and Apple Inc. (apple.com), through which Apple acquired a portion of Maya-Systems’ patents relating to innovative axis-based user interface technology.”

Maya says the acquisition included precisely 18 patent properties, all of which relate to the aforementioned technology for user interfaces.

The technology offers an intuitive way to display virtual content. The Canadian company suggests that Apple’s interest in their technology is a clear testament of Maya’s innovative spirit.

“This transaction attests that Maya-Systems axis-based user interface is ahead of the growing demand for axis-based user interfaces,” it says.

Mathieu Audet, founder of Maya-Systems and patent agent, says, “We dealt with a significant number of sophisticated buyers. We are pleased to have secured the transaction with Apple.”

“Our patents have been analyzed thoroughly by many potential buyers. We are confident that they are strong assets,” Audet adds.
