Job posting reveals Apple’s plans of introducing the iPhone OS to new, unspecified devices

Apple’s jobs section is featuring a new posting that suggests the company is looking to expand the range of devices running iPhone OS. The listing is for a Platform Bring-Up Engineering Manager within the company’s Core Platform team, which currently needs “a talented and inspired manager to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS on new platforms.”

“The team is responsible for low level platform architecture, firmware, core drivers and bring-up of new hardware platforms,” Apple explains. “The team consists of talented engineers with experience in hardware, firmware, IOKit drivers, security and platform architecture. This position requires a very technical and hands-on leader, experience in working closely with hardware team and a deep understanding of bare metal software,” the Mac maker stresses.

“You must be a highly self-motivated individual who seeks to create a dynamic and creative team environment in which old problems are solved in new and innovative ways,” the description goes.

Job responsibilities include leading and managing a team of talented software engineers, working with hardware and custom silicon teams, defining the software roadmap, and others. The applicant must have a minimum of five years experience in managing a software-development team, as well as some experience with drivers, kernel and firmware software technologies. Direct experience is particularly needed in the area of developing on and for the Unix operating system, Apple outlines. Other requirements are listed as well.

Finally, some additional strong points include experience with Mac OS X or iPhone development, previous bring-up of mobile platforms running Unix like operating systems, as well as experience with ARM based SoC's (system on a chip).
