Following the start and subsequent end of Apple's US Back to School promo, which included a “free” iPod touch (8GB) for all students buying a new Mac, the offer has come to the UK as well. However, don’t think Apple is handing out free nanos or anything like that. As a student at a higher education institution, or a teacher / lecturer, you are eligible for a rebate on an iPod nano 4G, IF you buy a qualifying Mac before October 31, 2008.

"If you’re a student at a higher education institution, a teacher or a lecturer, and you buy a qualifying Mac before October 31st, 2008, you can get a £95 rebate on an iPod nano," Apple says on its website. "After all, isn’t student life about seizing every opportunity?," the company adds.

To receive the education discount, Apple notes that the customer must either be a “student, teacher, lecturer, administrator or other staff member in education.” Only these individuals qualify for “special discounted pricing on Apple computers, software and select third party products.” As always, quantity limits apply.

If you decide on a MacBook (starting at £657), you save £42, Apple says. For those interested in raw processing power, the MacBook Pro (starting at £1,195) saves you just over a hundred quid, while “the world's thinnest notebook”, the MacBook Air (staring at  £1,127) brings about a £72 saving. Lastly, Apple's most popular computing solution, the iMac (from £751) saves customers £48.

Everyone should keep in mind that Apple is offering rebates on its new iPod nano (4G), which boasts a slimmer design, vibrant color models, the same 2-inch screen that was previously available on the nano (only now it's vertical), and 8 gigs of storage capacity. You can have a closer look at the device right here.

Apple's terms and conditions reveal that, to place an order, you must be 18 years of age or over, and be accessible by a landline phone, not a cellular telephone. Also, in order to be entitled to benefit from the special discounts on the Apple Store for Education, you must be either a registered student and possess a valid student ID, or you must be engaged as a teacher or lecturer at an education institution and require the Product for your own use, for your classes, or for research. The rest of the document, detailing Apple's terms and conditions for the Back to School promo, is available here.
