An email has been sent to all MobileMe subscribers around the world with a message from the computer giant in Cupertino, California stating that it’s time to move on.

“MobileMe ends soon. It’s time to move your account to iCloud,” reads Apple’s memo.

The Mac maker adds that existing users can keep their mail, contacts and calendars up to date with iCloud.

Not only that, but switchers also gain access to a whole new set of features exclusive to iCloud, including Photo Stream, Backup, iTunes in the Cloud, Documents in the Cloud, Automatic Downloads, and Purchase History.

Trying to access the former MobileMe site yields a similar message from the Cupertino mammoth: “MobileMe is no longer accepting new subscribers. If you’re a current member, you can still access everything as usual through June 30, 2012.”

iCloud is free with iOS 5 and OS X Lion.

Additional system requirements include iPhoto’11 (version 9.2) or Aperture 3.2, for Photo Stream; iTunes 10.5; Outlook 2007 or 2010 - “recommended” for Contacts and Calendar; Safari 5.1.1 or Internet Explorer 8 or later, for Bookmarks; and Safari 5, Firefox 5, Internet Explorer 8, or Chrome 12 to access your mail, contacts, calendars, Find My iPhone, and iWork documents from your computer's web browser.

The FAQ about the MobileMe transition to iCloud reveals that “The core services provided by MobileMe have been rewritten to work seamlessly with iCloud. MobileMe will no longer be available as a paid sync service.”

Apple outlines that, “If you had an active MobileMe account as of June 6, 2011, your service has been extended through June 30, 2012, at no additional charge. After that date, the MobileMe service will no longer be available.”
