Owners are asked to return the wireless speakers

We were informed that Apple sent an important notification to all owners of the Beats Pill XL speakers, and that is because, in rare cases, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk.

After some rigorous tests, and probably some complaints from customers, Apple arrived at the conclusion that, in certain conditions, the battery inside the Beats Pill XL wireless speakers might reach a point so hot that it will start a fire. Thus, this is the reason Apple urges all Beats Pill XL customers to stop using the speakers and return them as soon as possible.

The recall is voluntary, so if you don't want to send your Beats Pill XL wireless speakers back to Apple, that's fine, but please keep in mind that they pose a threat to you and your family. Apple has agreed to pay you back the sum of $325 (€290) in the form of an electronic payment or Apple Store credit.

"Customers who purchased a Beats Pill XL speaker should visit www.apple.com/support/beats-pillxl-recall for details about how to return their product to Apple, and how to receive an Apple Store credit or electronic payment of $325," said Apple in the press release received by Softpedia.

The Beats Pill XL speakers were introduced by Dr. Dre's Beats in 2013

The Beats Pill XL wireless speakers were introduced by the Beats company owned by Dr. Dre back November 2013. As you may know, Apple acquired Beats in 2014, so that is why you will have to return the speakers to Apple, despite the fact that you bought them from Beats at the point in time. Please note that this recall doesn't affect any other Beats products or devices and accessories produced by Apple.
