Apple has approved the first heart rate monitor app that leverages Bluetooth 4.0 (also known as Bluetooth Smart) and the SmartHRM WiFi standard - CardioMapper.

Developer body-PRO says that “contrary to popular belief you burn more calories running than walking an equal distance. When has ‘popular belief’ ever yielded that theory?

Anyway, the company says their new app allows you to use iPhone GPS to determine intensity based calories burned doing distance exercises like biking, running, ice skating, inline skating, walking and cross country skiing.

The app also includes an interval coach that can tell you when to increase or decrease your pace, and you get full real time and post exercise analysis, such as calories, duration, pace, speed, and distance, including a graph.

The integrated Heart Rate Monitor lets you connect the newest heart rate monitors such as the SmartHRM and Bluetooth Smart 4.0, and live pulse data will graph heart beat rhythm to match your heart.
