Shill reviews are still a problem for Apple’s App Store

Apple has mistakenly approved two fake apps in its walled garden, leaving the impression that at least some titles are not properly vetted by its team of reviewers.

As reported by Sanjiv Sathiah writing over at electronista, two fake apps posing as Grid 2 and Trials Evolution, respectively, managed to get Apple’s veil of approval last month and lived in the App Store for a few weeks before Apple discovered they were scams and pulled them.

Going by the report, it was Sathiah himself who sounded the alarm on the scams. He wants an answer from Apple, as well as a public acknowledgement from the company with stated plans to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

He claims his confidence in Apple’s App Store approval process has been “shattered,” adding that the shill reviews he saw on iTunes didn’t help with the decision process one bit.

Sadly, this is not the first time such scams transpire into the iTunes App Store. Softpedia reported a while ago that Apple had approved a bunch of fake Halo 4 games in a similar manner.

I've reached out to Apple for a comment but the company hasn’t answer back since.
