Apple has issued a formal announcement confirming that its iPad mini with Retina display is now officially available in stores and online.

After refreshing the listings on its online store earlier today, Apple has now published a press release stating loud and clear that “iPad mini with Retina display is available starting today.”

The flagship feature of the diminutive tablet computer is in its name, a crisp Retina-grade screen which borrows the bigger iPads’ resolution and crams it into its smaller pixels in a 7.9-inch form factor.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, is quoted as saying, “The response to iPad Air has been incredible, and we’re excited for customers to experience the new iPad mini with Retina display.

“We think customers will love both of these thin, light, powerful new iPads, and we’re working hard to get as many as we can in the hands of our customers,” added Schiller.

Customers can order their iPad for 1-3 days shipping, if they’re not too pretentious about the specs, or they can wait for as much as 10 days should they go after the higher-end versions with 128GB of storage and cellular connectivity.

Also available today are Apple’s custom-designed polyurethane Smart Covers for iPad mini, which come in a range of colors, including blue, green, pink, yellow, black, and a Product (RED) version, which supports the fight against AIDS in Africa.

Aniline-dyed leather iPad mini Smart Cases are available in six colors, including yellow, beige, blue, brown, black, and (RED).

The accessories can be purchased through the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores, and select authorized resellers.

iPad mini with Retina display starts at $399 / €389 for the 16GB model with Wi-Fi-only connectivity.
