The rumors regarding next Tuesday come from too many different sources for them not to be true, and sure enough, Apple has just made an announcement that confirms them.
In an e-mail sent out yesterday, one week before the 12th, Apple has announced that it was going to hold a special media event next Tuesday. The invitation simply
states "It's Showtime," and shows the usual white Apple logo and sweeping Hollywood movie premiere spotlights.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 12, at 10 a.m. local time, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, 700 Howard Street, San Francisco, CA. According to CNET's Matthew Elliott , "Steve Jobs is set to take the stage for [the] press event next Tuesday, September 12."
While Apple has, as usual, not given any specifics about what the event will be, the invitation speaks volumes, without being overly specific. This event is clearly going to be about movies, and according to The Los Angeles Times report, Apple is going to unveil the much anticipated movie store that will offer full-length movies. Initially, it looks like the offerings will be from Disney, the same media partner Apple had when it launched downloadable versions of TV shows, alongside the video capable iPods. It is currently unclear whether Apple has managed to strike deal with the other major studios - due to arguments regarding pricing and what can and cannot be done with the movies once downloaded - but even so, they could very well be playing it the same as with TV shows, where the runaway success of the service prompted all the other studios to jump on board or miss the train.
