14 DAY TRIAL // Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering today announced OS X Yosemite, the next-generation Mac OS redesigned from the ground up with a modern look, new apps, and new continuity features for seamless workflow across devices.
Among the new features touted by Federighi on stage today, the new Today view in Notification Center gives users a quick look at everything they need to know, while iCloud Drive is located in the Finder (just like Dropbox) and can store files of any type, mimicking the functionality of regular cloud storage services.
Safari has been enhanced with a more streamlined design that puts your most used features and information frontmost, while Mail enables unprecedented message editing, including annotations on the attached image.
A new feature called Handoff lets you start something on one device and continue it on another, while Instant Hotspot enables iPhone Internet connectivity easier than ever. Perhaps the coolest feature demoed on stage today was making calls from your Mac.
A developer preview of Yosemite is available to Mac Developer Program members starting today and OS X Beta Program members later this summer. The final version will be downloadable this fall. Customers who are interested in signing up to download the beta can visit www.apple.com/osx/preview.
