Apple has officially acknowledged the rumored change in policy regarding re-stocking fees for opened Apple products, via an amendment to the “Purchase Policies” web page.

ifoAppleStore poins out to Apple’s recently updated “Purchase Policies” web page which reflects the end of re-stocking fees on opened Apple products (except for the iPhone, which has a special, dedicated section).

According to the source (which deals with all things Apple retail), the change was sparked by the addition of Personal Set-Up services to each purchase of an Apple product.

The new service includes the unboxing of the product.

Previously, product returns without a re-stocking fee were only accepted within 14 days since the purchase, and only if the product box was un-opened.

A re-stocking fee on opened products is no longer appropriate now, with the Specialist or customer opening the product within the retail store.

A snippet of Apple’s retail store policy Web page showing how the wording has changed is available in the image above (click to enlarge).

According to Apple, “if you are not satisfied with your Apple purchase, return it with the original receipt and original packaging within fourteen (14) calendar days of the date of purchase.”

“If the item is returned unopened, in the original box, we will exchange it or offer a refund based only on the original payment method,” the company explains.

“Apple will mail a check within ten (10) business days for cash, cash equivalent, and check transactions over $250,” it adds.

In addition to the above information, the following notes are posted:

· Opened software, memory, and other media can be exchanged for the same item, but cannot be returned for a refund. · Purchases made using a lease are subject to the terms of your lease agreement and cannot be returned. · Non-Apple products are sold by Apple “as is.” Consult the manufacturer for warranty terms and conditions. · Products can be returned only in the country in which they were originally purchased.

Also noteworthy is that customers may request a refund of the difference between the price paid and the current selling price, should Apple reduce its price on any Apple-branded product within 14 calendar days of the date of purchase.
