Aperture and iPhoto users who just so happened to buy a new camera recently may want to check out this new Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update from Apple. New Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, and Sony cameras are now supported for RAW formats.

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 4.02 adds RAW image compatibility for eight new cameras to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11, according to a technical note on Apple’s Support site.

Apple’s photography solutions now support Nikon COOLPIX P7700, Olympus PEN E-PL5, Olympus PEN E-PM2, Olympus STYLUS XZ-2, Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GH3, Sony Alpha NEX-5R, Sony Alpha NEX-6, and Sony Alpha SLT-A99.

Customers looking to see all the supported RAW formats in OS X are directed to a separate knowledge base article on Apple’s Support site.

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 4.02 applies to OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion and OS X 10.7.5 Lion (or later versions).
