Apple has released an advisory concerning photos saved from Mail into iPhoto on OS X Mountain Lion acknowledging that some users may have experienced errors. As usual, the Mac maker describes the symptoms and offers a resolution.

Affecting Mail, OS X Mountain Lion, and iPhoto 11, an issue may arise where “Photos received as attachments in a Mail message may not save directly to iPhoto,” says Apple.

Support document TS4435 offers a simple resolution that sounds more like a workaround until Apple patches this bug. Users must follow three simple steps: “1. Open iPhoto; 2. Return to the Mail message with the photo attachment(s); 3. Drag and drop each photo onto the iPhoto icon on the Dock.”

If there’s a bug that needs addressing here, it will either be fixed in the next version of iPhoto, or in the next Mountain Lion update (OS X 10.8.3).
