14 DAY TRIAL // Apple has confirmed a bug within the desktop implementation of FaceTime, the company’s standard video-chatting solution across the iOS and OS X ecosystem.
As users launch the FaceTime application from the Dock, an alert message may appear causing the app to crash.
“An internal FaceTime error occurred. There was a problem with FaceTime. You need to quit and open FaceTime again,” reads the error.
Apple’s resolution is to “click the FaceTime icon in the Dock one time, then wait for the application to finish opening.”
The company proceeds to explain why this error is sometimes displayed, suggesting that it is as much your fault, as it is theirs.
“This can happen if you attempt to open FaceTime a second time while it is already loading, such as by clicking the FaceTime Dock icon more than once.”
In other words, you just worry about clicking that darn icon once while Apple works to release an update that prevents FaceTime from crashing if you accidentally tap its icon a second time.
Also, the bug only seems to be present on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and OS X 10.7 Lion. Snow Leopard users remain unaffected.
