Apple's all-in-one concept has proved to be such a success that a few other system manufacturers have rushed to create their own versions of a desktop computer of this type. Important brands such as Dell or Sony have already released such all-in-one desktop computers but Apple's iMac is still the users' favorite. But this could easily change any day now, as the iMac just got a new competitor on the market, courtesy of Averatec.

Averatec might not be the biggest system manufacturer you
know of, but the company seems promising enough. With an experience that goes back to 2002, when it released its first notebooks, the company still has plenty of time and room to make it big. The new product, which was released Monday, might just help it accomplish that goal. This is because the new all-in-one PC is set for a head-to-head competition with Apple's iMac, in terms of technical specifications and design.

Although Averatec's new product comes in black, this shouldn't stop us from concluding that this all-in-one PC could be seen as something of an iMac evil twin. And, unlike the iMac, this Vista-ready PC seems bulkier. But still, after taking a look at the specification list it comes with, you might just grow to enjoy the new desktop computer from Averatec - especially since it sports a desktop Intel Core 2 Duo processor. If you compare it with Apple's computer, which is equipped with mobile Core 2 Duo processors, you will know the difference on the spot.

With a 22-inch LCD display, the Averatec computer system can provide you with a maximum of 320GB of storage space, a HDTV tuner, and a vertically oriented optical drive. The large display is powered by an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 graphics card, although we can't say for certain how much graphics memory you'll benefit from. As far as memory is concerned, this Intel G35-based system can go as high as 4GB of DDR2, although it is standardly equipped with 2 GB.

Other specifications include a built-in card reader and 2-way speakers. The Averatec all-in-one PC can be yours for $1,249 and you can find it on sale at various online stores or several other retailers.
