Apple's Safari Not a PayPal Banned Browser

- PayPal officials deny rumors

By: Bogdan Popa, Security and Search Engines Editor

Following recent reports, PayPal plans to ban unsafe browsers, especially the ones that provide weak security features. Among these tools, Apple's Safari
is one of the most important applications and, even if it's currently being accessed by millions of users, it doesn't actually provide too powerful security filters. Because of that, users thought that Safari was going to be one of the PayPal banned browsers but, according to a new statement of a PayPal representative, Apple's browser remains available.

"We have absolutely no intention of blocking current versions of any browsers, including Apple’s Safari, from our website," the PayPal official said according to TechWhack. "It’s critical to not only warn users about unsafe browsers, but also to disallow older and insecure browsers. Letting users view the PayPal site on one of these browsers is equal to a car manufacturer allowing drivers to buy one of their vehicles without seatbelts," Michael Barrett of PayPal added.

At this time, both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox are equipped with advanced security tools such as phishing filters. Although no Apple official has talked about future security improvements for Safari, an anti-phishing tool is expected anytime in the near future, especially due to the competition with the two browsers coming from Microsoft and Mozilla.

Safari is quite a popular browser nowadays, although it has just arrived on Windows platforms, being initially developed and integrated into Mac OS X as the default browser. Although Safari is quite a new player on the Windows browser market, it quickly attracted an important number of users, especially due to its well-promoted features. Apple stated that Safari is the fastest browser on web, including lots of other advanced functions, but no powerful security filters as you can find out from the latest news reports.
