The world was shown Origami, at the beginning of this week, and the device made quite a number of headlines. While certainly a brand new thing, and by what can be deduced from the presentation, not the easiest to use device, Origami does have a certain appeal for those with a fondness for gadgets.
Apple is well aware of the potential of
such a device, as is indicated by all the patent filing on the subject. However, Apple's approach is vastly different from that of Origami. Apple's patents drawings show devices with screen that cover almost the entire face of the device, with control being achieved through the touch sensitive screen. On screen click wheels and arc keyboards are very much in the style of Apple, and a far cry from other control methods, but could such a device actually be in the works?
It is hard to say whether or not Apple is seriously considering such a device. The media has been trumpeting Origami, but the user reaction leans towards lukewarm. The Patent applications themselves mean little as Apple is very well known for researching and patenting a lot of things that never actually see the light of day as products.
