Are you feelin' lucky?

The fuckubukuro, also known as "lucky bags" or "mystery bags" are a Japanese New Year's Day custom that finds merchants filling grab bags with unknown random content (unknown to the buyer, of course) and sell them for a serious discount, usually 50% or more of the list price of the items to be found inside. The low prices should attract customers in the New Year period to the shops practicing this custom, and some stores have really long lines before opening on New Year's Day.

There's no need to get into details about all this, since you can find as much information about it on the Web, and I want to get to our apples, as usual. Apple has stores in Japan, and missing such a good opportunity is not something to do, so...

According to MacRumors, Apple Japan is offering "lucky bags" for sale to customers, but unlike previous years, the online sales are limited to only 10 bags a day and 1 per customer for the 20 days between the 7th and 26th of December. This year's lucky bags cost almost 450$ but they promise to have contents worth more than two times that amount, with a value around 940$.

What should a buyer expect to find in Apple's lucky bags? Obviously, the answer is a secret at this time, so expect to find Apple's audio related products of the day, since the 250$ lucky bag offered at San Francisco store opening in 2004 had iLife, Keynote, .Mac subscription, 10% discount card, Bluetooth Adapter, Wireless Mouse, Wireless Keyboard, and either Airport Extreme, iPod Mini or iPod 20GB. If you happen to be in Japan when this event is happening or you live there, I hope you're going to be lucky and find exactly what you wish for in your lucky bag. Good luck!
