Only certain batteries are faulty...

Apple, in an effort to actively iron out all known issues with the new portables, has begun a battery exchange program for 15-inch MacBook Pro batteries. The program will see that owners of certain MacBooks that were sold between February and May receive a new replacement battery free of charge.

"We recently discovered that some 15-inch MacBook Pro batteries supplied to Apple do not meet our high standards for battery performance. To give our users the best experience possible, we will replace these batteries for customers free of charge. Note: The affected batteries do not pose a safety risk. You may continue to use your current battery until a replacement arrives."

Not all MacBooks sold within the aforementioned period have faulty batteries. The affected batteries have model number A1175 and a 12-digit serial number that ends with U7SA, U7SB or U7SC. TO see the model number and serial number of your battery, simply remove it from the computer. Only the batteries that fall within these serial number ranges need to be exchanged.

When Apple ships the replacement battery, they ask that you use the same shipping package and the prepaid shipping label included to return the recalled battery to Apple so that it may be properly recycled.

It looks like while Apple has had some issues with the Lithium-Polymer technology of the new batteries that they are using for the first time, they have identified all of the issues and are quickly offering fixes.
