It has been revealed that Apple’s App Store, now one year old, currently offers a whopping 13,000 immediately downloadable games, most of which are suitable for all iPhone and iPod touch models.

Gameindustry.biz reports that the popular App Store now “features over 13,000 games for the iPhone, accounting for over 20 per cent of applications on offer for the handset.” The source unwillingly fails to mention that most titles are also supported on first- and second-generation iPod touch devices as well.

Based on figures released by Mobclix, the report continues to reveal that, currently, 22.6 percent of the games on offer are completely free to download and play, while paid ones make up the majority of the 13K - 77.4 percent. Research done by genre has also revealed that puzzle games account for 16.4 percent of the games. Following puzzle titles are action games, which make up for 11.2 percent, and arcade games – 11.1 percent. Mobclix provides real-time application analytics, tracking and distribution.

Comparing these results with a March 2009 analysis, Mobclix has been able to find that the number of games currently occupying a spot in the App Store has more than doubled since spring. In March, there were roughly 6,000 games available for iPhone and iPod touch users.

Perhaps also noteworthy, to some, is that the most popular title at the moment is iHandgun. Following iFirearm‘s game in popularity is Hero of Sparta by Gameloft – the most popular paid game.

Softpedia readers may also like to know just how many applications spanning all genres and uses are currently available in the App Store. Well, since there isn’t a more accurate way to report the exact total number of applications (including games) now living in the venue, we had a look over at Apptism (iPhone app tracker). At the time of this writing, the tracker listed a total of 57,275 indexed applications. With dozens of new apps added every week, the App Store is clearly heaven for iPhone addicts.

Update: others say that Mobclix may not be all that accurate. Read all about it here.
