The Android app tablet ecosystem is growing strongly and one indication of the validity of the statement is that Google has launched its “Designed for Tablets” sections in the Google Play Store.

To bring weight to what I have just said, here comes a newly-released study that was conducted among developers.

The new information comes to us curtsey of Evans Data (via TabTimes) which conducted an in-depth worldwide survey including 464 developers who are actively developing apps for the mobile devices.

The results show us that almost a whopping 84% of those involved in the study are targeting Android tablets, while only 62% are developing for iOS. Last but not least is Windows with just 52%.

Nevertheless, the study shows developers are not devoting their time and efforts for only one platform, but they are working across multiple platforms and screen sizes.

Evans Data CEO, Janel Garvin explains that “targeting multiple screen sizes is definitely the way to go.”

“The benefit of having your app run across the gamut of device types is obvious and while there are difficulties in synchronization across devices types, and in the range of graphics capabilities that are supported by different screens, the benefits still outweigh the effort.”

Developers seemingly have a predilection for Android apps because, overall they take less time to finish. 41% of Android app forgers explained they were capable of finishing working on app in a month or less, but only 36% of iOS devs and 34% for Windows Phone said they could do the same.

The survey also found that time spent for testing and debugging is a big part of the app development process, except for the Firefox and Tizen platforms where coding takes up the most time.

Android app makers might spend a lot of time on testing and debugging, but it appears for them UI optimization comes first for them.
