Last month, a major milestone was overpassed, more than 500 million websites had been created. As you'd expect, the number grew further in the past month and there are now almost 526 million sites in the world.

That's a 22 million increase from the previous month, a 4.3 percent rise. In terms of raw number of sites, everyone saw a rise.

Apache added 15.9 million sites, the biggest mover, while Microsoft added 2.3 million sites in the past month. However, Apache's market share grew, Microsoft's decreased.

nginx added some 1.7 million sites, but this wasn't enough either for it not to lose a little market share.

When it comes to active sites, the numbers are smaller of course, but the trend generally the same. Microsoft lost about 30,000 sites, leading to a small market share loss, but Apache also lost market share, even as it added more than 600,000 active sites.
