Apacer has once again stunned the audience as it announced world's first high-capacity 8GB DDR2-667 ECC Registered DIMM memory module to be used inside high-end servers and workstations. Not long ago, the PC vendor announced a a 4GB DDR2-667 ECC Registered DIMM module, also to be used in server configurations.

The 8GB of DDR2 memory per RAM stick comes to meet the needs of AMD Opteron based servers, Moreover, the memory cards are especially optimized to work with servers powered by AMD's Opteron chips, and allows the user to manage the system resources better and, thus, maximize the overall performance.

The 8 GB memory module prove their efficiency under extreme workload in virtual server environments or, better yet, in cluster computing. Although it may seem a little too far-fetched to talk about supercomputing, they are becoming more and more common, as prices for technology are continuously decreasing.

"Apacer Technology has many years of experience in developing memory module products for the server market, and offers a range of memory module specifications to meet the needs of different server types. All Apacer memory modules are produced using rigorous manufacturing processes, and all undergo stringent environmental testing (including extended high and low temperature and high and low voltage tests) and on-board testing," reads a press release.

The 8GB DDR2-667 ECC Registered DIMM memory module is built using advanced 70-nanometer production process technology, that makes the RAM chips more energy-efficient, more stable and dramatically diminishes the heat volume at their core. The Apacer memory modules have received CMTL (Computer Testing Labs) certification, which ensure the user of their high level of reliability and compatibility required for the sever environment.

The memory is RoHS compliant, comes with a lifetime warranty but there is no word on pricing yet. Although the 8GB card are far from being cheap, a PC enthusiast could always stuff four such memory modules for a 32 GB dream configuration to go along with Microsoft's Vista 64-bit operating system.
