Solid state drives featuring the latest iteration of the SATA standard have definitely been making the news lately, but Apacer decided to steady things a bit by unveiling a line that sticks to the SATA 3.0 Gbps connection.
As always, companies from around the world are going about their business, periodically, or not so much, releasing some new product for their old or new portfolios.
In this case, Apacer has garnered some attention, though perhaps not precisely in the same way as the likes of Team Group, to give one example.
While Team Group
revealed solid state drives compatible with the SATA 6.0 Gbps connection, Apacer chose to stick to less extraordinary speeds.
This should let the
Pro II Series AS203, as it is called, strike some lower price points, but just how well this was accomplished is still unclear, since prices haven't actually been revealed.
That said, the 2.5-inch SSD could actually be seen as a full SSD series in its own right, what with featuring multiple capacity options.
Also, as is expected of solid state drives, the read and write speeds vary along with said capacity, growing the more storage space is packed inside the units.
As such, the one with 32 GB reads and writes at 200 MB/s and 100 MB/s, respectively, while the 64 GB one works at 250 MB/s and 180 MB/s. Furthermore, the 128 GB and 256 GB drives work at 250 MB/s and 230 MB/s, respectively.
Apacer made sure the TRIM command is fully supported and managed to give the SSDs an MTBF of 1 million hours, plus 128 MB of cache memory.
Finally, the SSD+ optimizer kit can be bundled with the Pro II AS203, as can be the Acronis True Image backup software. Finally, those so inclined may purchase a SATA-to-USB adapter or a 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch bracket.
