Apacer has recently announced the introduction of a new storage solution, taking advantage of the performance of today's Solid State Drive Technology, which offers increased performance and reduced power consumption over traditional hard drives. The company's new Serial ATA Flash Drive (SAFD) 254 has been specifically designed for industrial and embedded applications, according to the Taiwanese company. Featuring the technology benefits of NAND SLC memory, the new SAFD 254 from Apacer is said to deliver an impressive performance level, while offering data protection features suited for tough environments.

The market for Flash-based storage is increasing at a fast pace, with the continuous development of technology, which allows storage companies to roll out faster, higher-capacity and more reliable storage solutions. Apacer is a relatively small player in the field, but it appears to be committed to provide its customers with some of the latest solutions on the market. Its most recent product, dubbed SAFD 254, targets the professional market segment, delivering increased performance and densities ranging from 8GB to 128GB.

In addition to the SAFD 254, which promises read and write speeds of 150/130 MB/s, the Taiwanese company also introduced a cost-effective version of its new SSD, with the launch of SAFD 245-M. This product is designed to be used by notebook, netbook or MID users and delivers read/write speeds of 150/90 MB/s. Unlike its higher-performance counterparts, the SAFD254-M has been designed using Multi-Level Cell technology. Both solutions have been equipped with a SATA II interface.

According to Apacer, its new SAFD 254 Extended Temperature SSD with 128GB of capacity is now available, as a prototype, for a suggested selling price of US$900. This product line is scheduled to enter production stage in the second quarter of 2009, the company says.
