Google's Map Maker program ensures that countries where there's not much mapping data can get much better coverage in Maps, while at the same time ensures that real-time changes are immediately available in countries where coverage is already great. All of this is done with the help of volunteer cartographers.
The nice part is that there's no advanced knowledge required, all you need to do is know how to use Map Maker, which is not that hard, and have some knowledge of the area you're trying to improve.
Google has already made the very successful tool available to more than 200 countries. Now, it's doing the same for the Ukraine and Poland, coincidentally, the hosts of this year's EURO 2012 football championship.
"From the peaks of Ukraine’s Hoverla mountains to Poland’s cheerful Baltic coastline, you can now contribute your local knowledge to help create a more complete and accurate map of Europe," Google
wrote.
