The company puts together a special module to that effect

All-in-one monitors are all well and good, but for those that aren't keen on changing their good old HDTV, Warpia invented the ConnectHD SWP400VC.

Granted, all-in-one monitor may be laying it a bit thick, since the PC will still be required for this to work.

ConnectHD SWP400VC is a special module that only needs to be plugged into the TV via HDMI.

All-in-One monitors have been gaining traction because they can act as both HDTVs and monitors while performing, without help, things that wouldn't be possible without a PC in regular circumstances.

The new Warpia module performs those tasks instead of the display itself, though it doesn't enable the PC-free part.

The reason is that it takes a personal computer to hold the proper software.

Nevertheless, any HDTV with an HDMI port can gain the ability to utilize the Skype online messaging service, stream online content, etc., once the product has been enabled.

For those who want the specifics, streaming, messaging and everything else is possible as long as the module is within 30 feet (about ten meters) of the computer.

The distance has to be more or less free of obstacles that could interfere with the signal too (the PC sends info through the wireless USB adapter included in the bundle).

The module can play images and videos in Full HD quality (1,920 x 1,080 pixels), features 48 kHz, 16-bit Stereo audio (via standard jack or HDMI connector) and can work in Mirror Mode as well as extended mode (a second TV/monitor can be connected to it).

Sales will begin on December 23, which is just a few days from now, although most people will have to wait until after Christmas for it.

Then again, it may serve to wait until CES 2012 (Consumer Electronics Show), since it is there that Warpia will demo the device.

Pre-orders can already be set for the ConnectHD SWP400VC, provided one has the $199.99 to spare (153.53 Euro).
