Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith have been married for 16 years, but are now dealing with their most serious crisis yet. She found out he'd been cheating on her, but he's now working to win his way back into her good graces, says a new report. Rumors started making the rounds in June that the two were
on the verge of divorce because of Banderas' infidelities.
The other week, Melanie was photographed without her wedding ring on which, according to
Radar Online can only mean she was trying to send him a message.
It worked. He's now playing very nicely and making the extra effort to win Melanie back, the same celebrity publication writes, citing sources claiming to be familiar with the situation.
“Antonio has been desperately trying to win Melanie’s trust back. He has been doing everything in his power to revive the romance – flowers, sweet-talking on the phone, and extravagant gifts – because he realizes that she is close to her breaking point,” the spy says.
Melanie is happy he's acting like this again, though she's long decided not to let him have this round without a proper fight.
“She is playing hard to get. She has always known how to keep him on his toes and it wasn’t a coincidence that the cameras caught her with her wedding ring off! Ultimately she will probably stay with him but not before making him squirm,” the insider goes on to say.
Part of
her plan to make Antonio see she meant business when she asked for some distance is also making sure she's never in the same place as he is, at least for a while.
“The day Antonio flew into Los Angeles for a work gig, Melanie left with the kids for Aspen. She isn’t messing around,” another source says for Radar.
“The last thing Banderas wants is a nasty high-profile divorce. Despite their problems he still loves her and will do anything to keep her from leaving him,” the spy explains.
Not only would the divorce be nasty and highly mediated, but it could also prove very expensive: Melanie and Antonio are worth $50 million (€40.69) together, and splitting their estate could be a real headache.
