14 DAY TRIAL // They've been together for 16 years and by each other's side through thick and thin but, these past few weeks, Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith have been plagued by divorce rumors. Fans should breathe easy, the actor said just hours ago.
Banderas is now in Spain on charity work and, though reluctant at first to talk about his personal life on such an occasion, he was forced to because reporters wouldn't stop asking him that dreadful question, 20Minutos.es reports.
“You ask me a lot of questions about Melanie and I can tell you that we love each other very much and we're not going to get a divorce,” the actor said during a press call.
Banderas isn't usually the kind who issues press releases on the state of his marriage but, he explained on the same occasion, too many lies have been printed recently not to say anything about it.
“They've been saying and printing a lot of stupid stories but, considering they've been doing this for the past 18 years, I don't usually pay them any attention. We're not going to divorce or anything, we're very happy,” the actor stressed.
We also noted the other day that rumors that Antonio had been unfaithful to Melanie had reached a peak, with some tabs even claiming that she was on the verge of filing for divorce, having already decided to ask for a some time apart.
Admittedly, Melanie was recently spotted out and about without her wedding ring on, which could only have been a “message” to Banderas that she meant business whenever she mentioned the word “divorce.”
Other reports said that he was desperate to get back with her, even though he did her wrong by cheating on her.
At the same time, some tabloids speculated on what a nasty divorce battle this could be, particularly because they'd been married for so long and worth a lot of money together ($50 million [€40.69 million]), presumably without a prenup.
