There are very few power supplies that earned the highest rating on the 80 Plus chart, but Antec's latest such product definitely deserves that certification.

For Antec to launch a PSU is not a shock in itself, but people have to take some time to stare in awe at the efficiency rating.

After all, it isn't every day that people encounter a PSU with an output ratio of up to 100 percent that doesn't waste almost any power.

Dubbed High Current Pro 1000 Platinum, the newcomer delivers 1,000 Watts of continuous energy.

Normally, in order to gain 80 Plus Platinum rating, a PSU needs to have an efficiency of 89 percent at minimum across 20-100% load levels. The HCP-1000 easily made the cut with its 94%.

"We wanted to give users the best possible feature set for their investment in a 1000 watt power supply," said Mafalda Cogliani, global marketing director at Antec.

"We designed a highly versatile, practical cabling to maximize cable management options and pushed High Current Pro to Platinum-certified efficiency to create a PSU package unrivaled by competitors at this wattage class."

The 100W power supply is completely modular and boasts Stealth Wires: darkened cables that make them harder to see in the case, especially if they are routed behind the motherboard.

Furthermore, the 8-pin connectors are particularly slim and can be plugged into the unit's 16-pin sockets, which means that future connectors of 10, 12, 14 and 16 pins will be compatible as well.

As for the rest of the spec sheet, the high Current Pro 1000 Platinum utilizes four +12V rails with 40A of output each and low ripple and noise levels, while a 135m thermally controlled fan keeps the heat under control.

Retailers in the US and Canada should have the product up for order, backed by Antec Quality seven-year parts and labor warranty, at $269.95 (203.81 Euro). Europeans will only get it on April 9.
