Redmond-based software giant Microsoft is readying the launch on the market of its latest mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7. The launch date of the first devices running under Windows Phone 7 was set for the fourth quarter of the ongoing year and, as that period of time nears, more details on the operating system and on the handsets powered by it emerge.
Not too long ago, we had the chance to take a look at a Windows Phone 7 prototype device from Samsung, but, while the focus there was on the handset itself, we now have the opportunity to have a closer look at the platform itself. The guys over at IntoMobile have just published a video demo with Windows Phone 7 as the main character, and you can take a look at it below.
Although the operating system is not in its final version, things are said to have made great progress towards that state. The user interface of the platform is said to look “very clean, contrasty and colorful,” while resembling in a way with what we already had the chance to see on the recently released Microsoft Kin One and Kin Two devices.
According to the news site, they took a closer look at the social networking integration in Windows Phone 7, as well as at the contacts and calendars systems on the platform. The calendar is said to be very colorful, which might prove a little confusing in the beginning, while contacts include social networking statuses and images, offering all the necessary info in a single place.
The handset that can be seen in the video was connected to AT&T's network, it seems. Since Windows Mobile-based handsets were already available with the carrier, it was only natural that Windows Phone 7 phones would also arrive there. However, the upcoming devices would certainly have to compete against far more powerful handsets than before, including the Apple iPhone 4, as well as phones running under Google's Android platform.
