They’ve joined forces in support for the protesters in Ukraine

Anonymous hacktivists say they’ve teamed up with FEMEN, the world renowned exhibitionist feminist protest group, in an effort to support the people who are protesting these days in Ukraine against the local government.

Anonymous hackers set their sights on Ukraine earlier this year. In October, they hacked into the systems of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and leaked a large number of documents.

Later, in mid-November, they leaked around 1 GB of files stolen from the country’s State Customs Service.

More recently, hacktivists have been launching distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks against various government websites.

Xenia Chernyshova, the founder of FEMEN Quebec, warns that Ukrainian authorities plan on paying thousands of people to come to Kiev in support of the country’s President Viktor Yanukovych.

She believes the government wants to “push Ukrainians at each other in order to get an excuse to use radical measures.”

“We will not sit by and stand idle while we watch another movement like Occupy Wall Street, The Arab Springs, Idle No More, etc. suffer injury and brutalization at the hands of a government paid goon squad acting on behalf of spoiled elites who are increasingly frightened by the very people they are supposed to serve, but are all too happy to walk on or exploit,” the hackers noted.

“It is now time for the people to claim back the power! This time Anonymous and FEMEN are making the stand together!”

On the other hand, it’s worth noting that not all Anonymous hacktivists appear to be against the Ukrainian government. There is at least one group that believes Ukraine should be independent of NATO, the European Union and Russia.

Furthermore, an unidentified group has launched a DDOS attack against the website of Radio Free Europe, which has provided extensive coverage of the Kiev protests.
